Fr. Peter Geraghty               1869 – 1871

Fr. Peter Geraghty was born in 1831 and descended from the Geraghty family, Castlebellew House, Ballymageraghty, Moylough, Co Galway. He was a cousin of Fr. Roderick Geraghty who ministered in Skehana from 1861 to 1864. His first ministry was in Tuam. He was appointed CC to Partry in 1861. in 1867 he was CC in Aughagower. He served in Skehana from 1869 to 1871. He was transferred from Skehana to Kilkerrin in 1871. He was appointed CC in Claremorris in 1873. In 1879 he seems to have been in Kilconly as PP.

From The Tuam Herald – June 20th. 1885

We regret to have to announce the death of tht Rev Peter Geraghty, P P, Kilconly, at his ancestral home – Castlebellew House, near Moylough, where he had been for the last three months in hope of recovering his health. Unfortunately it was not to be so. On Friday morning the remains of the truly-lamented were removed to Moylough chapel where solemn High Mass was offered up for the repose of his soul in the midst of a large number of priests and an immense crowd of laity from the neighbourhood and many from his far-off parish. After High Mass the remains were carried to the cemetery of Kilconly, only a mile off, accompanied by the large congregation. The deceased was only 54 years old, a good and pius priest and greatly admired and popular wherever his ministrations lay or where he was known.
