Fr. Patrick Joyce         1911 – 1912

Fr Patrick Joyce was a native of Ballyglass, Co. Mayo and born in 1879, and was educated at St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam, and at Patrick’s College, Maynooth. Ordained in 1907 he ministered in Achill until 1911 during which period he went to the United States of America to collect funds for the island churches. Having just completed his successful fund raising American Tour he was transferred to Skehana. He ministered in Skehana from 1911 to 1912 aged 32, and was Professor of English at St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam. from 1912 to 1916. He ministered in Castlebar from 1916 to 1918: at Keel. Achill, from 1919 to 1921 when he returned to Castlebar until 1924. He ministered in Glenamaddy from 1924 to 1931 and at Belclare from 1931 to 1934 when he was appointed Parish Priest of Cummer. The late Fr. Joyce ministered in Cummer until his health failed. He was the author of a life of Most Rev. Dr. Healy, a former Archbishop of Tuam. He was 83 at the time of his death on March 12th, 1962.
