The Moor Cemetery

The Moor Cemetery is situated in Abbert Demesne. It was also known as Knockmoy Church, Abbert Demesne in times past. Until the late 1980s there was no roadway to access and remains had to be brought across the fields by horse and cart, tractor and trailer or simply carried as no ordinary motor vehicle could gain access as the land around this area can be described as wet land most times of the year. A local community employment scheme made a roadway through and gave valuable access and a large parking area to what is a very quiet, beautiful and peaceful location as one can see from the photographs on the right. It is well kept, maintained and respected by people of the local area.

It was believed by all of the old people in the past, and even by many of the not-so-old today, that lights can be seen there during the night before a corpse is buried.
