Fr. John Waldron 1923 – 1924
Fr Waldron was a native of Ballyhaunis and was born in 1876. He was ordained in Maynooth on June 21st. 1903. A total of 61 young priests were ordained that same day in Maynooth. In 1906 he was CC in Carnacon. In 1910 he was CC in Aughagower. In 1913 he was transferred from Aughagower to Killawalla. In July 1919 he was transferred from Killawalla to Clonberne. He was CC in both locations. While he was in Skehana his father, Austin Waldron, passed away in Dublin. His funeral took place in Ballyhaunis in December 1923. Fr John Waldron ministered in Glasgow, Claremorris and Kilconly as well as Skehana during his time as a priest. Around 1941 he was appointed chaplain to the Franciscan Brothers, first at Cummer Monastery, Ballyglunin, and later at Roundstone. He passed away on February 18th. 1961 at the age of 85. He is laid to rest in the New Cemetery, Ballyhaunis.
