When I set out on what I thought would be a short and personal journey, uploading personal and family photographs for those same families and a small group of friends, little did I know what was about to unfold. With a simple request of asking for a few images to upload to my Facebook page I became inundated with photographs, goodwill and support to the point where I was almost overcome with the workload.
This led me to an initiative for Heritage Week 2021 whereby I am in the process of generating my very first e-book of many of the images, across a variety of headings, intertwined with some stories and background.
This would not have been possible without the magnificent support that I have received from the Heritage Council. They have been so supportive in hand holding me through the process, providing training and advice and of course the most generous financial grant that they have afforded to The Skehana & District Heritage Group. In addition I have received great backup from Marie Mannion, Galway County Heritage Officer, and her staff at Galway County Council, in scoping out the project.
The technical side of the projection has been handled by GK Media, Galway, and I would like to acknowledge, in particular, Michael Heffernan for his patience coupled with his great technical talents. Finally without the support of my fellow members of the Skehana & District Heritage Group and all of the people who have shared their images and life stories with me none of this would have been possible.
I am delighted to announce that the book is finally completed and you can view online or download the entire document from here. Click below.
